* DataLink Communications
1 The DataLink module facilitates downloading of security price quote
1 data from various data services. To download quotes, go to Price History
1 or Portfolio Position records and execute "Alt+L" to access this module.
1 Then execute the "Alt+A" autoquote command after specifying quote date
1 range. The "Alt+S" "SmartTerminal" command permits manual ASCII communi-
1 cations with bulletin boards.

1
1 Alt+E - Edit datalink records
1 Alt+S - enter "Smart" terminal mode (automatically dials
1 and logs on, then enters "manual" interactive mode)
1 Alt+A - Automatically price security positions in current position,
1 using current record AutoPrice specifications.
1 Alt+C - Communication specifications menu
1 Alt+D - Duplicates record (for further editing)

1 Log On Seq. - Log on sequence
1 Log Off Seq. - Log off sequence
1
1 ^P = pause. ^R=<CR> ^W = Wait for following characters.
1 Auto-price specs depend on service.
1
1 Compuserve-TAPCIS Users:
1
1 TAPCIS may alter the CIS "!" prompt to "OK", you may have to modify the
1 the DLINK script accordingly (replace "!" with "OK").
* Download Retrieval Spec Records
2
2 Download Specification Records are used to specify to the DataLink module
2 how to request for a particular type of data and to enable it to interpret
2 the data once it is received. The "T" (type) field identifies the type
2 of specification, upon which the contents and interpretation of the
2 "Specification" field depends.
2
2 The first 3 records are of type "*", and in order are used as follows:
2
2 1) Main Service Request - Transmits the request for quote services.
2 2) Sub-Service Request - Transmits request for particular quote
2 service. Subservice request is re-transmitted in order to get
2 a prompt if the previous quote request failed.
2 3) Quote Request - Transmits the security ticker symbol, represented
2 by "<SYM>", or security Cusip # (if applicable), represented by
2 "<CSP>" in a request for a quote.
2
* Download Retrieval Specs (cont'd)
2
2 The remaining record types ("A" through "Z", and " ") are used to interpret
2 the quotes as they are received. The type field represents the security
2 "type" as defined in the "T" field of the destination record. (recs w/o
2 "type" field are assumed type nul or blank). Brackets "<>" are used to
2 define variables which may be substituted in the quote request. The
2 interpretation of specification components is as follows:
2
2 <KW> - (Key Word) This is a series of characters (bracketed by double
2 quotes) from which the position of the quote is determined. If <KW>=
2 "<SYM>", the position count begins at the start of the following line.
2 The notation "[L+2]" specifies to skip two more lines before
2 starting position count.
2
2 <PFX> - (Prefix) Used as a prefix for retrieving Dow Jones quotes.
*
2 [POS] - Specifies position(s) of quotes to be retrieved. Position is
2 counted in characters starting from end of the response line which
2 contains the "Key Word". Exception: if a delimiter is specified
2 by "( )" then the position count is counted in "words" as separated
2 by delimiters (contiguous spaces are counted as a single delimiter).

* Price History Records
M
M Price history records are a historical database of prices which may be
M drawn on by PFROI to price portfolios or used to plot price/volume trends
M and compute moving averages. Data may be manually entered, imported from
M an ASCII text file, or updated by downloading prices from a price data
M service using the DLINK module. Alt commands are as follows:
M
M Alt+S - Sort by date (and by symbol for same date)
M Alt+M - Mask by symbol, to isolate a particular security
M Alt+G - plot Graphics of price, volume & moving averages
M Alt+D - toggles "Description" field display on/off (off=faster scroll)
M Alt+L - accesses dLink communications for data download.
M Alt+I - Import data from ASCII comma delimited text file of format:
M mm/dd/yy, Symbol, Type, Volume, Open, High, Low, Close
M Alt+A - accesses Master Security List (Aux)
M Alt+R - aRchives records from currently loaded price file.
M Alt+! - Toggles price retrieval "Disable" flag. When set ("!" next to
M symbol) DataLink skip record during price retrieval operations.
M
M The "Ctrl+F6" key will create a full set of new records dated the same
M date of the current record and with symbols drawn from the master list.
*
M To permit splits to graph properly, two price records should be entered
M on the date the split takes effect, with the first record containing
M the pre-split price in the "Close" field and the second entry containing
M the post-split price. For example, security "XYZ" splits on 4/15/90
M and closes the day at 40. You would make two "4/15" entries, the first
M closing at 80 and the second at 40.
